Kidney Stones and Frantic Shaving

  1. I love your writing style. That was such a horrible experience and it sounds terrible but I enjoyed reading it. Again, I know that sounds bad. S is a super hero and sounds to be an example for other spouses. 🙂 Wonderful to hear about your support system during all this and yes – Sword Art Online is great! 😁 Thank you for sharing and I look forward to future posts!

    1. Hahahaha! Thank you so much! I really appreciate your reading my blog! Yeah, I figured if I had to go through it, other people have to hear me whine about it. Yeah, S is pretty dang amazing. And YES! Sword Art Online will always be super special to me because of that day. Plus, it’s freaking good anyway! My dad has stellar taste in anime.

  2. What an awful ordeal. I thought there was some way to dissolve kidney stones. Sounds like they didn’t even try. Dang, they could at least knock you out with morphine. I’ve had some very painful episodes from various things and no one really realizes what it is like unless they experience it. Ah well, I’m alive. Hope your episodes are done. No one should have to go through that.

    1. Thank you! And yes, they determined my stone wasn’t big enough to warrant dissolving it, though they said if I didn’t get better within another week or so they would look into it. As for morphine, they didn’t seem to care that I was in pain so they just left it with oxy. I think I used 3 before I gave up. Still have the bottle somewhere even. I’ve never been treated so unsympathetically in my life. I don’t even drink, let alone abuse drugs, but they treat everyone like that and it makes me so furious. If it ever happens again I’ve instructed my husband not to take me to the ER even if I beg because I know it’s not going to help at all and I don’t want to pay thousands of dollars to be treated like crap again. I’m so sorry you’ve had your own dealings with pain! You have my utmost sympathy!

  3. I’m 66 now and I remember the kidney stone pain that hit the 19 year old me like it was 5 minutes ago. Mine was on the right side too, but the worst of it was closer to the lower back. I had the walk from the bed to the bathroom, called my Mom at work to tell her I was sicker than I could ever remember and experiencing debilitating pain. Like you, I hit the floor and stayed there. It’s difficult to throw up laying down, but I managed. Long story short, the family doc gave me a shot of elephant pain killer and sent me on to the hospital. Two days later I came out of the drug fog. The stone passed and I was sent home. The doc said something like “drink your fucking water and supplement it with a beer every day”. Fingers crossed, but I haven’t had another one. I hope you don’t either. I love your writing!

    1. Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words! And I’m so sorry you had to go through this too. It’s crazy how it burns into your mind and you never, ever forget what it felt like. Your long stint of no more stones actually gives me hope that maybe I can avoid them again too! Fingers crossed for the both of us…
